The Fountain of Magical Brethren for MISTI-Con by Thom-Heap The Fountain of Magical Brethren for MISTI-Con by Thom-Heap
This a full scale sculpture that I created for MISTI-Con 2013, a Harry Potter convention based on the idea of a new Ministry of Magic. It is what I imagined as the third version of the Fountain of Magical Brethren, where all five figures are equal to one another. The plaque on the front reads “Magic Unites.” This was installed in The Margate Resort in Laconia NH for the convention. It was created using plaster, wood, paper machie and other materials.

Thank you Simulcika! How have you been? The figures on the fountain are made with a combination of plaster and paper machie. I made the clothing from actual fabric, but once it was spray painted it became very stiff which worked out well for this.

WOW, what an endeavor!

Is the female just a witch, or is she something else specific?

Thank you! When it was decided that I was doing the fountain, each figure was to be a representation of each of the 5 magical brethren - that said, when I work on these figures, they become like children to me and they do have names and stories behind them. As a huge Snape fan, I couldn't help but to base the Wizard a bit on him, so his name is Severus. I didn't want that to be obvious, I wanted people to be able to have their own ideas about who he was so I steered clear of any recognizable features. His robes are based on an older illustration of Snape and his nose is a bit more Alec Hopkins (5th year Snape) than Alan Rickman's portrayal. The witch I named after an OC in my fan fiction. Her name is Tisiphone Torchwood, but againI went for a more universal witch look than the way I see her. The elf I wanted to be female, there needed to be more than one woman. Her name is Sikey. She is also in my fic and that name is a play on Psyche, but changed for a more elf like spelling. The Goblin I named Meagor, simply because I was listening to the Song of Ice and Fire series on audiobook as I worked, and he wanted his name to be Meagor. The Centaur is named Sage. It seemed fitting for him, as the Centaurs are very wise, and at the time it was a term that kept coming up, so I think it was meant to be.

Finally the plaque reads "Magic Unites". Since this is the third version of the fountain to replace the oppressive one which read "Magic is Might," I thought that would be a fitting term to replace the old one. (sorry if that was a bit more of an answer than you bargained for!)
